This standing figurine is a classic 'Dhokra' craft made by skilled artisans in Birbhum district of West Bengal. It depicts the Dashamukha Lord Ravana, the ill-starred ruler of Lanka, the most striking aspect of whose persona are His ten (‘dasha’) faces (‘mukha’). The ten heads of Ravana form a circlet at the top of a long neck. The upper part of the torso is flanked by a multitude of close-clasped arms, the interiormost ones wielding a sword and a shield. This independent Ravana figurine pays homage to His superior prowess as a warrior and an asura of high standing, often overlooked facts in view of His villainous role in the Ramayana.

Use this intricately cast metal figurine to add a spot of lustre to your home or gift it to friends & family members who admire fine Indian traditional arts.

"Dhokra Art", a Tribal art form, is amongst the oldest traditional techniques of metal casting in India, practiced for over 4,000 years. The lost wax technique, cire perdue is the medium of metalworkers in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and West Bengal. This craft dates back to pre-historic times of the Harrappa and Mohenjodaro Civilizations. Entirely handcrafted, the unique 13 stage process of Dhokra/ Bell metal making is an outcome of the original craft instinct handed down through the centuries. Dhokra/ Bell metal is an alloy of brass, nickel and zinc that gives an antique effect to the castings. This Ancient Art highlights the perfect union between Traditional and Modern Art!
